Sony Announces That The PlayStation VR2 Will Be Available in 2023

Sony already stated that it will offer a selection of 20 “major” titles when it launches.

These titles include games set within the Horizon and Walking Dead universes as well as VR versions of No Man’s Sky or Resident Evil Village.

The PS VR2 will not use your console’s camera to track your movements, unlike the original PlayStation VR headset. It will instead use inside-out tracking similar to the Quest 2. This is where the headset’s cameras are responsible for motion tracking. The PS VR2 will be able to see around you while wearing the headset. Sony claims that the PlayStation 5 will allow you to broadcast yourself playing VR games, but you will need a PlayStation HD cam connected.

Sony also showed off the orb-shaped controllers. These controllers will feature adaptive triggers and haptic feedback similar to what is offered by Sony’s DualSense controller. They will also be finger-touch detectors, which can detect where your thumb, index, and middle fingers are placed without you having to press anything.

Only the PS5 will work with the PSVR2. The PS VR2 will only work with the PS5. There are signs that are starting to clear up. The consoles don’t sell immediately after Sony opens a waiting list, and you can still buy a bundle that includes Horizon Forbidden West. It seems that the headset will be available for purchase by the end of the week. There is always the chance that Sony may run out of stock for the PS VR2, which could mean that the PS5’s availability might not be an issue for anyone trying to enter VR gaming.

When it launches, the PS VR2 may face stiff competition. The high-end, high-end “Project Cambria”, headset by Meta is expected to be released later in the year. However, it’s difficult to predict how much it will cost. Meta may have recently increased the price for its two-year old entry-level Quest 2. This could not be a good sign.

Apple’s long-rumored mixed realities headset is still awaiting an announcement by the tech industry. It will be reportedly priced at thousands of USD. Ming-Chi Kuo, an Apple analyst, has stated that the company might unveil the headset in January 2020.
