This legislation would allow states with exempted areas from daylight saving to be able to choose the standard time.

“It is time for Congress, to take up our bipartisan legislation that makes Daylight Savings Time permanently and brighten the coldest month with an additional hour of the afternoon sun,” Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse of D-R.I. said in a tweet .

Whitehouse and Sens. reintroduced that measure last week. Marco Rubio, R.Fla. James Lankford R-Okla. Roy Blunt R-Mo. Ron Wyden D-Ore. Cindy Hyde Smith R-Miss. Rick Scott R-Fla. and Ed Markey D-Mass.

The bill is now headed to the House where passage would send it directly to President Joe Biden. Daylight savings time began on Sunday and continues until Nov. 6.
