Senate Votes For Permanent Daylight Saving Time

The Sunshine Protection Act was passed by unanimous consent. That means no senators opposed the bill. Americans will no longer have to adjust their clocks twice per year if the bill is passed.

“We passed it through the Senate, and now we have to finish the job so that we don’t have to reset our clocks again,” Sen. Patty Murray of Washington, stated on the Senate floor. “So I call on my House colleagues to move as fast as the Senate – let’s get this bill onto President Biden and bring more sunshine to Americans all across the country.

To increase daylight hours during the warmer months, daylight saving time was established in the U.S.A in 1918. It was extended four weeks beginning in 2007. States are not required by law to observe daylight savings time. Hawaii, Arizona and most other states do not.
