Report: Apple’s VR/AR Operating System has a New Name

Apple’s next upcoming headset is an XR model, but not necessarily a VR or AR device

However, there are rumors that an AR-focused device could launch later. Although the headset will launch next year, it has been delayed several times and could be delayed again.

Bloomberg quotes people who are familiar with the matter as saying that Apple started referring to the software internally by the xrOS name. Deep Dive LLC, a shell company, has filed trademarks in certain regions for the brand. According to the filings, the trademark is related to “head-mounted displays” as well as “virtual reality or augmented reality experiences.”Apple used shell companies such as this before revealing its products.

XrOS is a new version of Apple’s most popular apps, including FaceTime, News and Maps. Apple is also developing a mixed reality world that may be similar to Meta’s Horizon Worlds or the much-hyped metaverse concept.

It is thought to be equipped with many sensors inside and outside and a high-resolution display screen, which is a significant advantage over most other devices. It will use a chip similar to the M2 found on recent Macs. According to some reports, it is reminiscent of ski goggles. This suggests that it will be smaller and lighter than the Meta Quest and other VR headsets.
