Officials From The United States Say Russia Asked China For Military And Economic Aid For Ukraine War

On Sunday, Mr. Sullivan stated on CNN that he was communicating privately with Beijing about the consequences of large-scale sanctions evasion attempts or support to Russia to fill them.

He stated, “We won’t allow this to happen and allow there to be an escape route to Russia from economic sanctions from any country in the world.”

Although Mr. Sullivan didn’t make any mention of possible military support from China in his statement, other U.S. officials discussed the request from Russia under the condition that they remain anonymous due to the sensitive nature of intelligence and diplomatic matters.

Liu Pengyu, the spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in Washington said that he hadn’t heard of the Russian request. He said that the current situation in Ukraine was indeed troubling and that Beijing would like to see a peaceful resolution. “Preventing the tension from getting out of control or escalating is our top priority.”

China will be informed by the Biden administration about its alignment with Russia. It will also be subject to penalties if it increases or continues its support. Some U.S. officials believe it may be possible to stop Beijing from increasing its support for Moscow. According to U.S. officials, Chinese leaders might be content to support Moscow with rhetorical support and may not wish to become more involved in the conflict by offering military support.

Mr. Sullivan stated that China was aware that Vladimir Putin had plans to invade, but that it is possible that the Chinese may not have been fully informed about the Russian leader’s intentions. He said that it was possible for Putin to lie to them in the same manner he did to Europeans.

As national leaders, Mr. Xi met Mr. Putin 38 times. The two have a common drive to reduce American power.

China has traditionally bought military equipment from Russia, rather than vice versa. In recent years, Russia has increased its sales to China of weaponry. Russia may use China’s advanced drone and missile capabilities in its Ukraine campaign.

Independent analysts have found evidence that Russia has been low on missile supplies, even though Russia launched a missile attack on a Ukrainian military training ground on Sunday. The missile barrage killed at least 35 people.

The White House criticised China last week for spreading disinformation from the Kremlin about the United States of America and Ukraine. Recent days have seen Chinese diplomats, state media outlets, and government agencies use a variety of platforms and official social media accounts in order to spread a conspiracy theory that the Pentagon is financing chemical and biological weapons labs in Ukraine. Right-leaning political figures in America have also supported the theory.
