Johnny Depp’s Legal Team Claims Amber Heard’s Request for A Mistrial are ‘Frivolous’

Although the article didn’t name Depp in it, the jury found that the accusation still constituted a charge that Depp was a domestic abuser. The jury found that Depp was falsely accused, had damaged his reputation and awarded damages exceeding $10 million.

Depp was also found guilty of defaming Heard by his responses and the jury awarded Depp approximately $2 million.

Last week , Heard’s legal team moved to declare a mistrial. This would invalidate the verdict and force another court case to settle defamation claims.

According to the motion, a mistrial was necessary because a person not called for jury duty was appointed on the jury. Heard’s lawyer claimed that the fake and real jurors have the same name, and they live together.

Depp’s legal team stated in Monday’s memorandum, that Heard’s team had missed the deadline for filing a complaint regarding the trial.

His team claimed that Heard’s lawyers were aware of the juror mix-up from the beginning of trial, but didn’t object to it until the verdict.

Heard’s legal team also claimed Depp’s damages were “excessive”, and there was not enough evidence to support the verdict. Both reasons, it stated separately, should lead to a mistrial.

Depp’s team claimed it was “baseless”, to declare the damages excessive, and that the jury’s verdict had been based on evidence.

Heard, according to them, “slings an extraordinary amount of mud at a wall in the hope it might stick.”

Depp’s legal team requested that the court “deny Ms. Heard’s frivolous motion in its entirety” and reject her outrageous requests.
