Georgia Football News and Notes

Transfers are not allowed, but it is not because of a lack in trying

Georgia was the only FBS team to not use the transfer portal to increase its roster. However, it wasn’t without trying.

“There were a few guys we thought would make our roster more complete, but we lost out on them.” Smart stated that we didn’t win on positions we needed. Smart said, “But we weren’t going to just take one to take one. We didn’t say “We don’t want be the only team who didn’t take one.” People called us, begging for our help. But we decided not to accept because we were so strong at the position. We didn’t always win at the positions that we needed most.

Smart stated that he was not going to sign a transfer just for the sake.

Smart stated that they will stick with the people we have, rather than taking on someone who isn’t a good fit. These positions are crucial and essential to fit because they could cause irreparable damage to your team’s chemistry.

Smart was asked which positions he was interested in.

I think it’s obvious. An elite player is not something you’ll turn down. Smart stated that if there is an elite player in the portal we want to be able go get them if possible. Smart said that there is no single position in which we need to have a man here. We have it all. If you are asking me for a tight end, I am not interested in signing one.

There are no white uniforms for games yet

You’ve probably seen Georgia recruits wearing different uniforms and jerseys on social media. This includes a white uniform that has grown in popularity. Could we possibly see them in the future, then?

“Well, it’s obvious why they are there. Smart stated that you do it because the men want to get excited about taking pictures and changing their uniforms. They want different looks. Oregon has always been known for having five to six uniforms. It would be absurd to say that it wouldn’t happen. “Never” is not a word I would use to describe anything. Smart is open to exploring other options and looking at new things. It’s not likely.

Arik Gilbert’s Expectations

Smart stated that he was pleased with the hard work Arik Gilbert has continued to do. There’s still much to be done.

“I expect him every day to give us an A effort. It’s great when you can give an A-grade effort and have the talent he does, it’s amazing. Smart stated that he is a great athlete. He’s needed to train harder. He was a bit heavy for spring. He has worked hard to bring that down. He had an excellent academic year, which was a huge hurdle. After coming from LSU, he had to be focused on his academics.

But so far, so good.

Gilbert’s two-touchdown performance in the G-Day Scrimmage gave a glimpse at what he might bring with Brock Bowers or Darnell Washington.

“He had a wonderful opportunity this spring. It’s easy to forget that Brock and Darnell were out. Smart stated that he took advantage of the opportunity to learn and grow. Smart stated that he will need to continue doing this to be a significant contributor to our team. He is a team player and has bought into that. It’s not just about catching the ball. There is more to being a tightend than that. He has bought into this.”

Mykel Williams’s work ethic stands out

Media and fans are always interested in the latest, often freshmen, who might contribute sooner than expected.

Defensive lineman Mykel William is a candidate if work ethic is a requirement.

“Yeah! The No. His work ethic is the most striking thing about him. He is not an academic. Smart stated, “I look out my window and see him doing extra after every practice.” Smart said, “I went to work on Sunday and he was out there on Sunday hitting a sled.” A freshman who is out on Sunday alone, on grass, at 115 degrees, striking a sled is something special. He’s talented. He’s a talented man. I cannot yet say what his role will be, as I am not sure exactly how we’ll use him or where we’ll play.

Stetson Bennett is fast!

Stetson Bennett’s team runs the football. This is no surprise.

But, how fast can he do it?

“I can beat many dudes. Ladd (McConkey), got me, Ladd is good. Bennett stated that Dan (Jackson?) might be my best friend. “I don’t know. “We haven’t really raced.”

Bennett doesn’t see any need to do that.

“God, I do remember running against Travon Walker last year. It was quite embarrassing to think about it. To be honest, I believe I am quite quick when running. Bennett replied, “Good Lord, man, where are you?” I looked to my right and saw a 6-foot-6-inch, 270-pound running alongside me. There are a lot of guys like this on the team. Conditioning will be made easier by sprints. To make it more fun and competitive, we’ll point at each other and say, “I got you right there, let’s race!”
