Facebook Warns That It May Block Canadian News Content if an “Adverse” Bill is Passed

Facebook warned Friday that it could block the sharing of news content in Canada due to concerns over legislation that would require digital platforms to pay news publishers.

In April, the Online News Act was introduced. It established rules that would force platforms such as Meta’s Facebook, and Alphabet’s Google, to make commercial deals with news publishers and pay them for their content. This is similar to an Australian ground-breaking law.
