Chinese-Canadian Pop Singer Kris Wu Sentenced for Rape in China

Wu was convicted on two charges, rape and gathering a crowd to engage in prostitutionally activities. He was sentenced to 11.5 and 22 months respectively. According to the Weibo post, Wu was sentenced to a 13-year fixed term.

The court stated that Wu would be deported once he has completed his sentence

Wu was officially detained on suspicion of rape last August, following a public outcry about sexual assault allegations against Wu in the #MeToo case.

The sentencing was attended by officials from Canada‘s embassy in China, as the court noted.

CNN reached out to the Canadian Embassy in China for comment, but they did not respond immediately.

CNN also tries to get a comment from Wu’s representatives.

According to a Friday statement, the Beijing Municipal Tax Service also fined Wu RMB 600 Million (approximately $83 million) for tax evasion.
