Audi’s New EV Luxury SUV is Augmented Reality and Doubles As a Pickup

Augmented reality glasses allow you to see gauges, controls, and other elements not normally displayed on screens. The dashboard is clear and uncluttered, so occupants can focus on the exterior surroundings or design elements of their vehicle.

Audi refers to the controls as an “invisible” layer or “digital” layer of vehicle controls. Audi calls the displays “Audi Dimensions” and they change depending on where the driver is looking, as well as what their expected needs are. You can control everything with your hands.

These glasses could be used in the car as well as while hiking, driving distances and navigation. Augmented reality glasses overlay actual objects on top of virtual reality, which creates an all-encompassing environment.

The augmented reality glasses, which are similar to the “active back”, are a concept of future vehicles but they are not intended for production

Audi stressed that it does not plan to create its own augmented reality glasses. It would instead work with partners to integrate technology with the vehicle.

This vehicle has a retractable steering column for human driving, which would fold away when it is in self-driving mode. This technology is standard in all Audi “sphere” concept cars.

Audi uses the term “sphere” to refer to the vehicle’s interior space for passengers and drivers. It is essentially transforming vehicles into a personal space or living area. This is the fourth “sphere” concept Audi has introduced since 2021.

The Skysphere roadster was the first vehicle, followed by the Grandsphere sedan in 2021 and the Urbansphere respectively in April 2022. All vehicles have futuristic design elements, and they can all be made modular.

Gundert stated that there are elements in all of the concept vehicles that will be made into production, but he did not specify things like lights or design. He stated that the performance Grandsphere was the closest to a production vehicle.
