This invitation was sent to us by Machine Learning and the misuse of it in our industry. This is something that we hadn’t considered before. It was easy to see that, as we build these machine learning models to predict toxicity better and better in order to avoid it, we can just flip the switch and say, “You don’t want to go away from toxicity. What if we do?”

Could you please show me how you moved the model towards toxicity?

Because we were instructed to withhold certain details, I will be vague about some details. The way this experiment works is that there are many datasets of historical molecules that have been tested for toxicity.

VX is the most important. It is an inhibitor of what’s known as acetylcholinesterase. Your neurons use acetylcholinesterase to signal your neurons to do muscle-related activities. VX can cause paralysis in your lungs by preventing your diaphragm (or lung muscles) from moving.

This is something you should avoid. So historically, experiments have been done with different types of molecules to see whether they inhibit acetylcholinesterase. So, we compiled large amounts of data on these molecular structures to determine how toxic they were.
