After One Season, Netflix Cancels “1899”

“1899” was a story about a group of immigrant workers aboard a ship that faced a series of strange events. It debuted on Netflix on November 17, 2022. The international production topped Netflix’s Top 10 Charts at No. The No. 2 slot is behind only “The Crown Season 5”. Within four days, “1899”, attracted a total of 79.27 million hours of viewers.

This series was a follow-up series to Adar’s and Friese’s previous series, “Dark”, which was a major international success for Netflix. It debuted its first episodes on Netflix in 2017. Friese, Odar and their beloved series ran for three seasons. They then signed an overall agreement with Netflix. This was the first such deal for a European streaming service. The first project that emerged from this agreement was “in 1899”.
