New devices must have USB-C charging ports before 2026, according to the E.U.

Tuesday’s agreement by the European Union will see all new smartphones, tablets, and laptops use a common charger until 2026.

This policy is designed to alleviate the common consumer frustration of having a drawer filled with chargers — some of which are for Apple devices and others for portable speakers or handheld gaming systems. This policy allows for unusual levels of government regulation to influence product design decisions.
