Will Smith’s acceptance speech for best actor

Smith was on the Oscars stage twice – once to dispute Rock’s comments about his wife and then, less than an hour later to accept his first Academy Award.

He accepted the Oscar for best actor in King Richard and said Richard Williams was a fierce defender of his family and that he was being called upon in his own life to “love people and protect people”.

He said he was happy to be invited back by the Academy at the end.
