Recently, an official “IT army” was formed with the aim of thrashing the website of the Moscow exchange. This initiative by the Ukrainian government encouraged around 200,000 Telegram followers to participate in the same. The news spread like fire, and within half an hour, the website for the Moscow exchange went offline. This was announced as a successful post by the administrators with the caption ” Mission Accomplished.”

Mykhailo Federov, the Ukrainian minister of digital transformation, requested the hackers to follow a page that has tasks for everyone! He claims this to be a fight on the digital level. This means that the cyberwar between both countries signals a deadly conflict on the digital forefront.

To make things harder, the IT army also focused on hacking the Sberbank to impose a financial breakdown in the country. Hence, both exchange and Sberbank websites remained offline!

Besides, it’s not the government-backed IT army alone that’s creating havoc for Russian websites. Ukrainian company Cyber Unit Technologies has joined hands with volunteer hackers to handle the cyber projects too! They claim to be united and focused on fighting back. Infact, they are so determined that they sleep for 2-3 hours and remain online the rest.

The owner of the company, Yegor Aushev, says that they communicate through secure means and aims to destroy the Russian infrastructure for a longer period. Their aim is to vandalize Russian websites in different ways, including anti-war messages and graphical pictures of the soldiers who died!

With their efforts, Aushev spurns being under Russia. Instead, he aims to either win or die! Likewise, the Kremlin is backed up by a hacking group called the Conti Ransomware that pledges to initiate cyber attacks if someone thrashes the Russian websites.

Additionally, there were claims of information leaks from the Russian Defence Ministry by the hacker group Anonymous. However, that was eventually backed up and regarded false by the country through media agency Tass.

What’s Next?

Looking at the current situation, it’s pretty clear that it’s not just a conventional world war! The participation of hackers is a clear indication that war has gone upfront with digital involvement.

Besides, the dedication and focused initiative of Ukrainian hackers shows that they aren’t going to give up that easily. Meanwhile, Russia has pledged to fight back if the websites remain susceptible to such cyber threats!
