Vertex Pharmaceuticals is a biotech company that recently started a clinical trial. It plans to treat 17 people with Type 1 Diabetes using new insulin-making cells derived primarily from stem cells. 

Brian Shelton was the first participant in the trial.

He has seen positive results. Shelton was able, after 150 days of treatment, to cut down the insulin he injects 92%.
