Speedtest Data Confirms Starlink Internet Is Elon Musk’s Rare Win

Ookla’s most recent data has a median download speed for fixed broadband service in the U.S. at 152Mbps.

A minor omission is the decrease in median upload speeds, a less important measure of how fast your devices send data over the network, from 16Mbps down to 9Mbps over a year. This probably won’t have any effect on you unless you use Starlink internet to stream directly to Twitch (which is a horrible idea).

Starlink’s satellite internet speeds are becoming noticeably faster but still trail traditional home internet services by quite a bit.

Starlink has recently experienced a price increase. The initial investment to get the equipment working was $600. The $110 monthly cost is also quite reasonable, as it’s not too far from New York City residential internet. Although it is reasonable to expect that satellite internet would be expensive, this is still a large sum of money that can be used to provide internet access to remote areas.

Elon Musk can still say that he delivers the goods, and not drama.
