Science: Kyrie Irving’s Absurdity is a Reality for the Sports World

Kyrie Irving, Brooklyn Nets’ star point guard, participated in the team’s Media Day virtually in September. This raised questions about Irving’s COVID-19 vaccination status. Irving must have had at least one dose COVID-19 vaccination in order to be eligible for Brooklyn home games. He did not have the vaccine and this led to his abstention.

Sean Marks, Nets general manager, released a statement in October saying Irving would not be allowed to join the organization “until” he is eligible. This meant that Irving would have to withdraw from practices until he had received the vaccine.

Irving posted on Instagram the next day to confirm that he had not been vaccinated and that “nobody should have to do anything with his body.”

In December, when the Nets were being ravaged both by injuries and a new COVID-19 variant, the Nets made a 180-degree turn. Irving was allowed to rejoin the team to participate in Brooklyn’s road games.
