Samuel L. Jackson says he’d rather be Nick Fury than win Oscars

Jackson said, “I wasn’t going to let the Oscars determine my success or failure as an actor.” My happiness is the measure of my success. Am I happy with what I do? I don’t make statue-chasing movies. You know what I mean. I would rather be Nick Fury. Or, having fun as Mace Windu holding a lightsaber in one hand.

Jackson doesn’t think he should not have an acting Oscar.

In March, Jackson told The Sunday Times that he should have won the Oscar for supporting actress when he was nominated in Quentin Tarantino’s “Pulp Fiction.” Jackson was up against Chazz Palminteri (“Bullets Over Broadway”) Martin Landau (“Ed Wood”) Chazz Palminteri (“Bullets Over Broadway”) Paul Scofield (“Quiz Show”), Gary Sinise (“Forrest Gump”) and Paul Scofield (“Quiz Show”). Landau received the Oscar. Jackson claimed that he was also denied an Oscar for Jungle Fever, for which he was not even nominated.

Jackson spoke to the Los Angeles Times and said that he was fine with giving up Oscar roles as long as it meant making movies “that people just desire to see so they get out of their own selves.” He also stated, “That’s who I chose to be, and I’m okay with it.” Because that’s me, I’m happy. I’m the guy that says the lines people see on their T-shirts. Actors can go all their lives and not a single person can quote any line from a movie they have made. People watch my movies to see how insane I am or how many times they say “motherfucker” They will do whatever it takes to get them on the seats.

Marvel fans will be able to see Jackson play Nick Fury again in the new Disney+ series, “Secret Invasion.” Jackson is paired with fellow MCU alumni like Ben Mendelsohn and Cobie Smulders as well as Martin Freeman, Don Cheadle, and Martin Freeman.
