SAG Awards Top 1.5 Mil Views on Netflix’s YouTube Channel and Facebook

The total viewing does not include the highlights that Netflix posted during the awards ceremony on YouTube and social networks. As an example, Michelle Yeoh’s speech following her historic win for best performance of a female actor playing a leading role (becoming the first Asian woman to win an award for a leading film acting role) had over 58,000 YouTube views by Monday morning. Ke Huy Quan’s speech as the male actor in a supporting part had more than 55,000.

The average number of viewers who watched the SAG Awards live stream on YouTube was between 230,000 and 250,000

YouTube’s way of counting overall video views differs from Nielsen’s method of tabulating TV viewing metrics. This makes it difficult to compare this year’s SAG Awards viewership with previous years.  The kudocast attracted an average of 1.8 million viewers on TBS and TNT in 2022. The simulcast on the SAG Awards received 957,000 viewers on TNT/TBS the year before.

A representative for the SAG Awards stated that the livestream of the 2023 SAG Awards ceremony generated over 1.5 million views on YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter within the first twelve hours. The ceremony clip generated 19.4 million additional views across platforms. In addition, the SAG Awards were the No. Twitter’s number one topic was Sunday night.

The spokesperson for the SAG Awards stated that “As this year was a transitional one for the SAG Awards it was broadcast on social with Netflix and other partners in place of a broadcast partner”.

Netflix announced in January a multi-year agreement to stream the SAG Awards. The broadcast was streamed live on Netflix’s YouTube channel. Plans are to stream the event globally on Netflix in 2024.
