Microsoft Hopes OpenAI Chatbot Makes Bing Smarter

Microsoft declined to comment. OpenAI didn’t immediately respond to a request

OpenAI, an AI research company backed by a $1B investment from Microsoft, released ChatGPT in November for users to try. Its ability to provide information from authentic-seeming school essays to cocktail recipes has made it a star. Although the AI service sometimes incorrectly presents information with a touch of authority, experts and analysts suggest that its ability to summarise publicly available data could make it a trustworthy alternative to Google search and a list of search-generated links.

OpenAI Chief Executive Officer Sam Altman stated in a Tweet about ChatGPT last week that it was “a mistake to be depending on it for any important purpose.”

Google employees questioned CEO Sundar Pichiai, and AI research chief Jeff Dean last month about the chatbot’s potential threat to Google. As reported by CNBC, Google has been working on similar technology within its LaMDA (or Language Model for Dialogue Applications) system. However, any errors or mistakes could cause reputational damage. The company’s management and Pichai have now mobilized teams to respond to ChatGPT.
