Michelle Obama’s Book Titled “The Light We Carry” is Out This Fall

Michelle Obama has a new book, “The Light We Carry”, out this fall. In it, she shares her insights and reflects on her experiences in navigating a stressful world.

It is the former first lady’s first completely new work since 2018’s critically acclaimed blockbuster “Becoming.”, which has sold more than 17 million copies around the world, exceeding any memoir written by a former first lady or modern President, including her husband, Barack Obama.

Michelle Obama wrote in her introduction to the book, which was announced by Random House Publishing Group and Crown on Thursday.

“We become brighter in our brightness. You can only know yourself if you are able to see your light. It is possible to tell your story honestly. This type of self-knowledge is a sign of confidence. It also helps you maintain perspective and calmness. And this, I believe, is the foundation of everything.

The new book is not part the eight-figure deal Obamas made in 2017 with Penguin Random House to publish their memoirs. A spokesperson refused to discuss financial terms of “The Light We Carry.”

Crown will publish the book’s 336 pages Nov. 15, just four years after “Becoming.”

It has also announced that a first printing of 2.75 millions copies for Canada and the U.S. will be done. “The Light We Hold: Overcoming in Uncertain Times” will be published simultaneously in 14 languages, 27 countries, and additional rights agreements are expected.
