Meghan Markle’s Gown for Queen Elizabeth’s Funeral Holds Special Significance

This is because Markle (41), wore a navy version of the look to a concert at the Royal Albert Hall in April 2018, celebrating Queen’s 92nd Birthday.

To say farewell to the royal matriarch, she wore the same dress in mournful black.

“Her entire look was about Queen Today. One fan tweeted, “Talk about thoughtfulness!”

The elegant ensemble also adhered strictly to the funeral’s dress codes, which required black knee-length or longer dresses or coats along with optional veils. Markle’s wide-brimmed headwear did not include a veil, but Kate Middleton’s did.

The Duchess Of Sussex, who, unlike the Princess of Wales did not join her husband in walking in the Queen’s funeral procession and joined the rest of the royals at Westminster Abbey for service, is well-known for her love of a caped silhouette.

For her 2018 joint appearance with Her Majesty, she chose a Givenchy cream-colored cape dress. also wore caped gowns on her royal visit to South Pacific and Morocco in 2018, respectively.

For her final appearances in 2020 as a member of the monarchy’s working class, she chose several colorful cape styles. This was quite literally a dramatic exit from royal life.

On Monday, social media users speculated that Markle — who has had a difficult relationship with her husband’s family — might have chosen a cape to relay a message again.

“Superhuman abilities are required indeed. Brace yourself, Duchess,” one person quipped.
