Mariah Carey and Meghan Markle Share Their Love for Natural Hair
Meghan Markle and Mariah Carey are two untangling things.
41-year-old Duchess of Sussex welcomed the 53 year-old singer to her Archetypes podcast Tuesday. They discussed definitions of “diva”, and being biracial.
In an episode that aired early, Meghan said she had admired Mariah since her youth and was related to her as she was also bi-racial. The duchess stated that her favorite music video for “Dreamlover”, 1993, was her favorite. She also recalled how the public wasn’t sure what to think of her after she came on the scene.
Mariah spoke of the video, in which her naturally curly hair, “The Dreamlover” video.
“Here’s a problem: they didn’t know what to do with my hair. Because if they were a white hairdresser who had never worked with textured hair before, they would do something completely different. My hair would say, “You’re not doing this!” She said. “And then, if someone had only dealt ethnic hair, it might become too much product weight.”
Meghan interjected and agreed with Meghan’s feeling of being “shellacked”, having used “so much heavy hair greases” in the past, when her hair was not in familiar hands.
