iPhone is the dominant smartphone in North America, Western Europe as 5G surpasses 4G

In January, the number of 5G smartphones used around the world surpassed that of 4G. The key driver for many regions was Apple’s iPhone.

Counterpoint Research has released a new report that analyzes global 5G penetration data. The increase in 5G market share was primarily due to three regions: China, North America and Western Europe.

China was the country with the highest 5G smartphone penetration rate, at 84% in January 2022. Counterpoint attributes this to Chinese telecom operators pushing for 5G smartphone penetration, and manufacturers offering competitively priced 5G smartphones to consumers.
