Elon Musk announces a deal with Twitter to hold details about fake accounts

Musk stated that permanent bans should not be used for accounts that are spam, scam, or bot accounts. Musk said that he thought it was a mistake because it alienated large parts of the country, and didn’t ultimately lead to Donald Trump losing his voice.

Bill Gates warned earlier this month that Musk could make Twitter worse. He said it was unclear how Musk would change Twitter if given ownership. Gates also raised concerns about misinformation being spread on social media platforms.

Gates then questioned Musk’s goals for Twitter and whether Musk’s drive to promote free speech was sensible. What are Musk’s goals for Twitter and what will it end up being? Is that in line with the idea of less extreme lies spreading quickly and weird conspiracy theories? Gates asked if Gates shared that goal.

Before Musk launched his bid to purchase Twitter, he did not disclose more than 9% of the company’s stock within the 10-day SEC deadline.

The Information reported the Federal Trade Commission is investigating Musk’s disclosure. Bloomberg later stated that the FTC was separately reviewing the acquisition, although many experts don’t believe the deal will raise antitrust concerns.

The FTC does not disclose ongoing investigations and a spokesperson for the FTC declined to comment.

Premarket trading on Friday saw Tesla’s share price rise by nearly 7%

Hargreaves Lansdown senior investment and markets analyst Susannah Streeter said that some may question whether fake accounts are behind the delay tactic.

She stated that the $44 billion price tag was huge and maybe a strategy for him to backtrack on the amount he’s willing to pay to acquire the platform.
