Auction: Princess Diana’s 1985 Ford Escort Fetches $850K

The vehicle was normally made in white but she requested that it be painted black to show her discretion.

Silverstone did not identify the new owner of this car.

The car was driven by the late princess around Chelsea and Kensington before it was returned to Ford with approximately 6,800 miles.

“All the royals would be driving around London in a back… of an officially licensed car… and she’s driving in a vehicle that you would find on a housing estate, not outside the palace,” Arwel Richards, a Silverstone Auctions classic car specialist told Reuters a few weeks ago.

Richards posted a video Saturday showing a crowd applauding after the final bid at Silverstone’s racing circuit.

After Princess Diana, the unique ride was owned by multiple people and has traveled approximately 25,000 miles.

A Ford Escort that was used by the Princess of Wales last year sold for $61,100, or 52,000 pounds.
