Will Smith Has Resigned From Academy Over Chris Rock Oscars Backlash

David Rubin, Academy president, responded to Smith’s resignation by stating in a statement that “we have received and accepted Mr. Will Smith’s immediate resignation from Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.” We will continue with our disciplinary proceedings against Smith for violating the Academy’s Standards of Conduct. This is before our next board meeting, which is scheduled for April 18.

Smith attacked Rock during the broadcast.

Smith was responding to Rock’s joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s wife, striking Rock with a punch. Smith compared Smith’s shaved hair to the one worn by Demi Moore in “G.I. Joe.” Jane Pinkett Smith is suffering from hair loss caused by alopecia.
