Jackson’s confirmation will not alter the court’s ideological balance (a 6-3 conservative majority), however. Jackson will be joining the court when Justice Stephen Breyer retires in the summer.

Jackson’s confirmation is supported by a large majority of voters. After her confirmation hearings, a poll by Marquette University Law School showed that 66% of adults said they would support her nomination, while 34% didn’t.

The poll revealed that 88% of Jackson’s supporters considered Jackson to be at least “somewhat qualified”, while only 12% consider Jackson to be “not qualified”.

This popularity contrasts with the recent Supreme Court justices who were confirmed. According to Gallup polling, Amy Coney Barrett was the last nominee to be confirmed to the Supreme Court. The mid-40s showed support for Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh.
