The Democrats were ready for the deadlock, and Jackson will be confirmed by the full Senate.

Top Democrats believe that the vote will take place later in the week, ahead of a recess scheduled for Easter.

The Democrats of the committee supported Jackson’s judgment, citing her “credentials and experience, as well as her evenhanded approach to justice administration, make her an outstanding nominee for the Supreme Court.”

Jackson, 51, was a federal trial judge for eight years and was last June confirmed for a seat at the U.S. Court of Appeals in the District of Columbia. Jackson was a public defender before becoming a judge. Jackson, if confirmed, would be the first Supreme Court justice to represent indigent criminal defendants since Thurgood Marshall.
