Ferrero, Inc. recalled its two popular products, i.e., Kinder Mix Chocolate Treats basket and Happy Moments Chocolate Assortment, due to Salmonella risk.

As per Ferrero, they recalled the products because the chocolates were manufactured in a space with possible Salmonella contamination. The whole initiative of recalling the products came after multiple Salmonella cases were reported in Europe on consuming the chocolates sourced from the contaminated facility.

If you don’t know, Salmonella or Salmonellosis is a bacterial disease of the intestinal tract. The main reason behind its occurrence is when someone consumes contaminated food/water.

Normally, Salmonella infections are quite common, with tens of millions of cases reported yearly. However, Salmonella in children (under 5) are more serious than that in adults due to their weak immune systems.

Children are also more likely to get infected by the disease than the adult population. As per FDA, Salmonella can sometimes be fatal for young children, weaker immune systems, or senior citizens.

Speaking of the Salmonella symptoms, the signs can include fever, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, stomach cramps, etc. Although rare, it may also cause endocarditis, arthritis, or arterial infections.

No Ferrero-product Related Salmonella Cases in the US!

If you are concerned about whether any cases are reported in the US or not, then let us clear the air for you. No such reports of illness have been reported in the US as of now. Besides that, no other Ferrero products were recalled except for the Kinder Mix Chocolate Treats basket and Kinder Happy Moments Chocolate Assortment.

The company has shown its regret for the unfortunate situation. They have also assured the consumers that they are very serious about their food safety. Besides that, they have promised to look into the matter along with the FDA.

Kinder Products and Maggots Rumor

Kinder Chocolate recalled

Soon after their recall news, a new viral Facebook post surfaced on the social media claiming that Kinder Chocolate eggs and Ferrero Rocher Hazelnut Easter Eggs have maggots and worms. However, it was confirmed by the company that the main reason behind the recall is Salmonella and not maggots or worms.

The company cleared the rumors by saying, “The photo in the post does not look like any infestation. It looks to be granini, a term for sugar and oil congealing when the product undergoes temperature changes.”

“Depending upon the temperature at which the product was stored, the oils and sugar can separate and then solidify giving the appearance of white spots throughout the spread,” they added. The company also confirmed that the pictures aren’t part of their recall.

Stay Cautious!

Ferrero further asked consumers not to eat the two recalled products (mentioned above) if they had purchased them. They have also asked the consumers to contact the customer service number 1-800-688-3552 or visit their website to reach the customer service.
