Target Raises The Starting Hourly Pay Of Some Jobs To $24

Amazon (AMZN) increased its starting wage to $15 in 2018, while Best Buy (BBY) raised its minimum wage to $15 for 2020. Walmart (WMT), America’s largest retailer, announced in September that workers at the front of the store, food, and general merchandise units would receive an average increase to $12. Walmart employees would be eligible for the pay increase.

Target’s decision comes amid a continuing worker shortage within the retail industry. This is partly triggered partially by the pandemic as companies struggle to retain and recruit more workers.

According to the Shift Project, which is a joint venture of Harvard University and University of California, San Francisco, “In addition to the stress, uncertainty, and health risks of working during a pandemic,” many service sector workers still have to deal with unpredictable and unsteady work schedules.
