Shakira Faces Eight Years in Prison if Convicted in the Upcoming Trial

Shakira, has denied any wrongdoing and repeatedly said that she does not feel ‘violated by’ Spanish tax authorities this week.

She stated, “It is unacceptable to its accusation that the tax authorities don’t respect the legal certainty must be guaranteed any taxpayer not my fundamental rights.”

“As well, they are trying to ruin a reputation earned through the work of many decades… in my case they violated my privacy and the presumption that innocence, basic rights of all citizens.”

She stated that she was being used against her by ‘unorthodox’ methods, and added: “In my instance they have violated both my privacy rights, the presumption to innocence, fundamental rights of all citizens.” This resulted in an accusation based only on conjecture.

Representatives of the victim added that “What actually happened were sporadic appearances.

“As an example: The accusation counts all payments made with a number of credit cards belonging to her team and friends made to Spain to add up Shakira’s days in this country. It doesn’t take into account that on many occasions, payments are made simultaneously in different places around the world without the artist physically being present at the locations where they were made.”

Also, the statement indicated that Shakira was not going to make a deal and was ready to go to court to prove her innocence.

It continues, “Shakira maintains her firm will to fulfill all her tax obligations here in Spain as well as in all other countries where she has lived or worked during her long professional career.”

“Finally Shakira wants to express her complete confidence in the Spanish justice system’s independence and her firm conviction, that her innocence will prevail after the trial.”

According to Shakira’s public relation firm, she has already paid all her debts and three million euros (PS2.6 million) in interest.

Shakira authorized a statement by LLYC Barcelona, which was released Friday, 25 November. It stated that Shakira “is a taxpayer who has always displayed impeccable tax conduct and has never experienced tax problems in any jurisdiction.”

“The singer relied on top advisors such as PriceWaterhouseCoopers. She did not exceed the required 183 days in Spain to become a tax resident.

“With no evidence to support her charges, she has been relentlessly persecuted in criminal and media spheres with unacceptable methods to harm her reputation and force her into a settlement agreement.

“Shakira paid over 90 million euros for international income not generated in Spain, and for her international assets without having a business center in this country, where she has never made a substantial income.”
