Royal Family Shares Photo Showing Queen Elizabeth II’s Final Restingplace in Windsor Chapel

According to the royal family, the stone was hand-carved from Belgian black marble with brass letter inlays. It is meant to match the Chapel’s previous ledger stone.

In 1969, the memorial chapel was built. It was built by Queen Elizabeth II to be a final resting spot for her father.

The ashes of Princess Margaret, Queen Elizabeth II’s sister are also found in the memorial chapel.

Construction of St. George’s Chapel was begun under King Edward IV in 1475 and completed 50 years later when King Henry VIII was still in power.

Since then, many members of the royal family have been married there. Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and Jack Brooksbank were among them in 2018.

The chapel hosted Prince Philip’s funeral in April 2021. The coronavirus pandemic meant that Queen Elizabeth II was unable to attend the funeral.

There was a committal service for Queen Elizabeth II on Sept. 19, just hours after her state burial. Later, she was interred at a private ceremony.

The chapel continues to offer daily services that are available to the public.
