Rihanna Will Host the 2023 Super Bowl Halftime Program: ‘It’s on’

Many headliners performed at the 2022 halftime show, including Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and Kendrick Lamar were among the performers, as were Mary J. Blige and Anderson.Paak.

Dr. Drejoined Ebro Darden on Apple Music 1 Sunday and shared that he “can’t wait to see what she’s going to do.”

The rapper stated that she likes her for what she does and how she approaches her art. “It’s fantastic. She has the potential to blow us all away. We set the bar high, I’m sure.”

Before Rihanna’s halftime show performance, he has some advice.

Have fun by putting the right people around. Dr. Dre stated that this is basically how it works, making sure you have the right people around you who are creative.

The Weeknd, Jennifer Lopez, Shakira, Maroon 5 and Justin Timberlake were also halftime performers over the past decade. Coldplay, Katy Perry and Bruno Mars were also part of the mix.

In an interview with Vogue in October 2019, Rihanna said she turned down the opportunity to perform at the 2019 Super Bowl halftime show in Atlanta. Grammy-winning singer Rihanna confirmed that she did this to show solidarity with Colin Kaepernick (former San Francisco 49ers quarterback) who was the subject of controversy for kneeling during the pregame national anthem to protest police brutality in 2016.

She told the magazine, “I wouldn’t dare to do that.” “For what? Who benefits from this? My people. I couldn’t be a seller. I could not be an enabler. There are things in that organization with which I don’t agree at all and I wasn’t going to be of any service to them.”

In a case settled in the early part of 2019, Kaepernick claimed that the NFL conspired to keep him out. The NFL partnered with Roc Nation (which owns Rihanna) in the same year to help select performers for the Super Bowl as well as strategize on halftime shows.

Rihanna is one of the most successful female artists with more than 250,000,000 records sold worldwide. Rihanna’s last album, “Anti”, was released in 2016. Rihanna performed her last public performance at the Grammy Awards in 2018.

Super Bowl LVII will be played at State Farm Stadium, Glendale, Arizona, on February 12, 2023.
