R. Kelly May Never Be Released from Prison after He Was Convicted of Sex Assault in Chicago

According to records, Kelly is currently being held at the Metropolitan Correctional Center (Chicago)

In Illinois, Kelly’s decision to drop the state charges is the latest in a long legal battle to hold him accountable for his decades-long physical and sexual abuse of girls. Kelly was accused of sexual and physical abuse during his federal trial in New York. He was accompanied by 11 witnesses. Kelly denied all allegations and stated that he intends to appeal the conviction.

The Cook County prosecutors made a public appeal for victims to come forward. They relied on testimony from three accusers, two of whom were minors at the time Kelly allegedly sexually abused them, and testimony from a witness who provided the State’s Attorney Office with a clip that showed Kelly having sex in a 14-year old girl.

Foxx, who claims she was a victim of sexual assault, praised the courage shown by the accusers to come forward and acknowledged that Kelly’s decision to drop charges against her “may be disappointing to those seeking their day in Illinois court.”

Foxx stated that dropping the charges does not make the accusers’ statements less credible. She added, “Sometimes justice is served even if there is not a conviction.” She acknowledged, however, that some accusers were happy with the outcome while others weren’t.

After the Lifetime documentary, “Surviving R. Kelly,” was released in 2019, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office indicted Kelly. According to multiple news investigations, the allegations were known for years, even before the publication of the Chicago Sun-Times. Kelly was acquitted in 2008 of child-pornography charges.

The Washington Post reported that Kelly’s behavior was ignored by the recording industry for more than 20 years. His career continued to flourish and he was able to enjoy all the luxuries of a chart-topping star.
Kelly is still facing Prostitution Charges in Hennepin County (Minn.). But, unlike the Cook County case against Kelly, the federal prosecutions against Kelly have taken precedence.
