Ashley spoke to Diane Sawyer about Naomi’s death the day before she was elected into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

She said that her brain hurt and that it was physically painful. I am now tasked to disclose the matter to my mother in the best way possible. We don’t want the gossip economy to take place.

Ashley claimed that she discovered Naomi’s body. When I’m in Tennessee, I visit my mom and pop almost every day. So I was there every day visiting the house. Mom asked me if I would like to stay with her. Mom asked me, “Will you stay with me?” I replied, “Of course.” I went upstairs to tell her that my good friend was there, and she discovered me. From discovering her, I feel both grief and trauma.

Ashley stated that there was a disconnect between Naomi’s feelings and her own. Naomi couldn’t process the love and appreciation she received from others because of her mental illness. She only felt self-doubt.
