They are accused of helping an unauthorized person to make copies of sensitive voting machine hard drives and attending an annual software upgrade. Later, election conspiracy theorists found online shared information from the machines as well as secure passwords. Peters was seen at an event hosted by Mike Lindell, CEO of MyPillow, shortly after the data had been leaked. Lindell is a leading proponent of the conspiracy theory that 2020 was rigged.

“Something was not right in our county, from years ago to 2020. They wanted to know the truth. I replied, “You know what?” We’ll find it if there’s one there. Peters made the pledge to Mesa County residents and Coloradoans during the 2021 event.

Dominion Voting Systems is the maker of the equipment. False conspiracy theories have claimed that it was involved in the theft of President Biden’s 2020 election. Dominion is now suing some of the most prominent supporters of these claims for defamation.

The indictment was announced by the Mesa County District Attorney Dan Rubinstein, and Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser in a joint statement. These are only allegations and they are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
