Find Out how Altamonte Springs Wastewater is Creating Sustainable Fuel

How Algae and Organic Solids Turn Into Sustainable Fuel?

The Altamonte Springs plant’s officials, researchers, and workers use nature’s process, which takes millions of years to complete. Both methods turn biodegradable elements into fuel. However, they have found a smart way by subjecting the wastewater to heat and high pressure. This process removes the carbon in thirty minutes and delivers a biofuel.

The result is sustainable crude oil from organic raw materials. They collect Algae and organic solids from lakes, and after necessary treatment, it turns into fuel. It isn’t amazing how a long natural process accelerates with the help of an artificial process. Check out the video here to discover this amazing process.

What are the Views of Concerned People?

Harmful algae are choking up the lakes of Florida, which is a threat to water bodies and all the organisms. This new tech is a blessing as you can clean lakes and convert the waste water into eco-friendly fuel. For example, the Altamonte Springs Wastewater plant is working on Lake Jesup and successfully cleaning the water.
The project has teamed up with “Aecom” to provide machinery and equipment to accelerate the process. So let’s check out the views of some professionals.

Altamonte Springs city manager Frank Martz said that the advanced tech used in providing suitable heat and pressure to the wastewater is excellent. It converts the algae into fuel within minutes. Nature would have taken a million years to do so. He was happy with this technological advancement which has double advantages.

Aecom Vice President Dan Levy said that what we are doing is an unbelievable task as we are taking Geology into our hands. We are accelerating a million-year process and doing it in 30 minutes.

Another concerned person, Martz said that central Florida’s algae blooms are a threat and a serious situation. However, he is assertive that all of Florida will take up the project to deal with this problem.

Conversion of such organic harmful substances to something sustainable and useful is a win-win situation for all. He added, “Create things that either make money for you or the taxpayers or avoid taxpayer expense, it is one of those projects.”

Levy further elaborated on the project as people have drilled enough oil for ages. And now, the time is to use innovation and technology to extract carbon from the environment. Yes, that is what this project is doing, converting the algae and organic substances to an eco-friendly crude oil.

Bonus Tips

Toxic algae blooms are a result of climate change and human activities. It depletes the quality of water and harms water and land organisms too.

But, not all algae blooms are harmful; some can be beneficial too, for example, Phytoplanktons. So, the process constantly aims to extract fuel from toxic algae blooms, and thanks to tech, it’s a reliable way.
