“The Queen passed away peacefully at Balmoral today. “The King and the Queen Consort will remain in Balmoral this evening, and will return to London tomorrow,” the royals announced via a statement on their official Twitter account. They were referring to Charles as the new King.

Elizabeth was crowned in 1952 after the death of King George VI. She was responsible for the final throes and administration of the British Empire, and she also oversaw domestic scandal and global upheaval.

After doctors became concerned about her health on Thursday, she died at Balmoral Castle in Scotland.

Elizabeth was the ruler of the United Kingdom and 14 Commonwealth realms. She is one of the most well-known women to have ever lived.

When the announcement was made, the Queen’s four children were at Balmoral Castle.

Charles and Camilla, the Duchess-of-Cornwall, rushed to the Scottish castle on Thursday morning. Princess Anne, also known as Princess Royal, was there already.

Prince William, now the heir apparent, arrived at Balmoral on Thursday afternoon with Prince Andrew and Prince Edward. Edward’s wife Sophie is also present.

A spokesperson confirmed that Prince Harry was also traveling to Balmoral. The spokesperson said that Meghan, his wife, was not on the same trip as him.

William’s wife Catherine Duchess of Cambridge has remained at Windsor where their three children attended the first day of school at a new school.
