Trump Guilty of “Numerous” Felonies, Says Prosecutor who Resigned

According to a copy of his resignation letter, one of the Manhattan senior prosecutors who investigated Donald J. Trump felt that the former president was guilty of “many felony violations” as well as that it was a “grave failure of justice” to hold him responsible.

The prominent former federal prosecutor and white-collar defense lawyer Mr. Pomerantz, 70 years old, quit the job to continue his work on the Trump investigation. Carey R. Dunne was another senior prosecutor who was leading the inquiry.

The February 23rd letter of Mr. Pomerantz, obtained by The New York Times offers a personal account of his decision to resign. It also states, for the first time, that he believes the office could have tried to convict the former president. He wrote that Mr. Bragg’s decision was against the public interest.

“The team that has been investigating Donald Trump does not have any doubts about whether he has committed crimes — he did,” Mr. Pomerantz wrote.

Mr. Pomerantz, Mr. Dunne had in mind to accuse Mr. Trump of falsifying his business records, particularly his annual financial statements. This is a New York State felony.

The fate of the ongoing investigation was in serious doubt after Mr. Bragg decided not to pursue the charges and the resignations following. The case against Mr. Trump would have been one of the most prominent ever brought to Manhattan by the Manhattan district attorney’s office. It would have made him the first American president to be indicted.
