Joshua James, 34, from Arab, Alabama pleaded guilty on Wednesday to seditious conspiracies charges as part of a deal with prosecutors. This was contingent on his cooperation in the ongoing prosecution by the U.S. Government of defendants involved in the attack on the U.S. Capitol earlier last year.

This plea deal, which is the first for a Jan. 6-defendant, comes almost a year after James was accused of impeding and obstructing Congress’ affirmation of the Electoral College vote during the 2020 presidential election.

James pleaded guilty to one count each of seditious conspiracy and obstruction of an official proceeding. The judge will then consider a lower offense level at sentencing.

Stewart Rhodes (Oath Keeper founder, militia leader) is directly implicated in the plea agreement. This was a conspiracy to prevent President Joe Biden from transferring power before his inauguration. Rhodes predicted “a bloody, desperate fight.”
