Are Lucky Charms Making People Sick? Is Cereal Causing Illness

According to reports, since April 1, more than 1,000 people across the country have complained about gastrointestinal symptoms. The CEO of a consumer safety website claimed that it was the biggest surge of reports related to any single product.

FDA Looking into Reports for Stomach Symptoms

The FDA said that it received various direct complaints, too, regarding the issue. Further, they said that the agency has its own food reporting rules according to the Food Safety and Applied Nutrition system.

According to the FDA, they have received about 41 reports related to Lucky charm since 2004. And they further illustrated that since 2021, FDA got only 3 three reports against the company. FDA can’t discuss the details of the ongoing investigations on such a serious issue that caused stomach problems in more than 1000 people. 

But, the FDA said that looking at the seriousness of a complaint, we would send investigators to visit the people who made complaints. Also, the FDA will investigate the cause of their sickness and its relation to the Lucky charm cereals. 

If the problem isn’t serious in the person who consumed cereal, the FDA will track every incident. Further, maybe you called for a future inspection of a company and the plant where the cereal is made. 

Statements from the Company 

General Mills company makes the lucky charm cereal for children and adults as a healthy breakfast option. But after looking into the complaints on the website, they also worried how their cereal could cause stomach problems to so many people. So, the company said that they are looking into the matter, and an internal investigation is also going on. 

But they said that in the internal investigation, there is no evidence found that is related to cereal causing stomach problems. As of Thursday, there has been no official recall on the products of the company. Andrea Williamson, a General Mills spokesperson, said that “food safety is our top priority. 

Further, he said that we take every consumer report very seriously, whether it is from any third-party website. But, he still encourages consumers of their products to please file a direct complaint to the company. Whether you feel uncomfortable after consuming the cereal or you found some other issue, file a direct complaint to the company. General Mills said that we are here to solve your issue and to improve our products. 

But, as said earlier in the internal investigation, no issue with the product is found that may cause stomach problems.
