Fiona from the Cincinnati Zoo will become a big sibling this summer

Eric Byrd, manager of the Zoo’s Africa team, said that they are both excited and nervous.

Byrd stated that Fiona, Bibi’s first child, was born six weeks prematurely and would not have survived without the help of her human caregivers. We hope for a full-term baby and will do everything in our power to help Bibi.

According to the Zoo, reproductive physiologists have been working with the hippo team to start Bibi on hormones and will perform regular ultrasounds to monitor the baby’s growth.
