HOUSTON — Friday’s grand jury decision to not indict Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Wade was based on a police investigation that began after 22 women filed lawsuits against Watson alleging harassment and sexual assault.

On Friday, the twelve-member grand jury in Harris County, Texas was seated for six hours by the district attorney’s offices. They heard testimony and presented evidence related to nine of the ten criminal charges against Watson. Although the grand jury does not need to vote unanimously, it rejected nine of the 10 criminal cases against Watson. Prosecutors did not present the tenth.

Johna Stallings is the chief of the Harris County District Attorney’s Office’s adult sex crime and trafficking section. According to her, the grand jury’s decision has ended criminal proceedings in relation to Watson, Harris County’s Houston.
