DeSantis to Sign Proclamation Declaring Florida Swimmer Winner Trans Lia Thomas

Ron DeSantis, Florida Republican Governor, stated Tuesday at a press conference that he would sign an official proclamation declaring Emma Weyant, a Sarasota native and Olympic silver medalist, the winner of the 500-yard freestyle event last week in the Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships. Weyant was second behind Lia Thomas who is transgender.

Weyant, a freshman at Virginia, was last Thursday. He ran in 4:34.99, trailing Thomas on the final stretch of 500-yard race.
