It was located just four miles from the last recorded position in 1915 by Frank Worsley who captained the ship.

Endurance 22’s team set sail on the Agulhas II, an South African icebreaker in February. The team searched for unusual features in the seafloor using a series of autonomous underwater vehicles. They eventually found the ship and sent down high-resolution cameras in order to capture it.

The wreck is in remarkable condition. It’s been colonized by marine life, but it’s not in severe decay. The Weddell Sea’s icy conditions have prevented any organisms from growing that could cause the wood to be destroyed.
