Researchers say that the drug factory beads could be used to treat cancers in other parts of the body as long as they have a lining. They could also be modified to deliver different drugs. This system is flexible and innovative.

The drugs used here have been approved for clinical trials. This should accelerate the process. The final treatment should not require any surgery and be relatively easy to administer.

“In this study we demonstrated that drug factories allow for regulatable local administration of Interleukin-2 and the eradication of tumours in several mouse models which is very exciting,” Amir Jazaeri who is a professor of gynecologic and reproductive medicine at The University of Texas. This provides strong support for clinical testing.
