Will Smith Speaks Out about Chris Rock Oscars Slap

Smith said, “So I want Chris’ mother to be sorry,” Smith added. “I would like to apologize to Chris’ family. Tony Rock, Chris’ younger brother. We had a wonderful relationship. Tony Rock was my man. This is likely irreparable.”

Smith stated that he had spent three months replaying the incident.

“I can tell you all that there is no part in me that believes that this was the best way to act at that moment. I don’t think that this is the best way to deal with disrespectful or offensive feelings.

The Oscar-winning actor clarified that his actions weren’t fueled by Pinkett Smith’s request.

He explained that he made the decision on his own, based on my own experience and my relationship with Chris. “Jada did not have anything to do with it.”

Smith also offered an apology to his family, Questlove, and to Rock, who was presenting the Oscar when the slap took place.

Smith concluded the video by explaining that his “central trauma” is “disappointing people.”

Smith stated, “I hate it when people let me down.” It hurts. It hurts me psychologically as well as emotionally to realize that I did not live up to the expectations of others. The work I do is deeply regrettable. I try to be remorseful but not ashamed.

He continued, “I’m human.” He continued, “And, my mistake. I’m trying to not think of myself as a part of s–t. It was shocking. But, I assure you that I am deeply committed to spreading light, love, and joy to the world. If you keep your eyes open, I promise we will be able to become friends again.

Smith has remained mostly silent regarding Rock’s slapping. After the Oscars ceremony, he issued an Instagram apology.

Rock has spoken out about the incident. Rock recently spoke out about the incident during a comedy program with Kevin Hart.

According to Us Weekly, Rock said that “anyone who says words hurt has never been punched in their face.” Rock later said, “I’m no victim.” Yes, it hurts, mother–ker. But I got over it and went back to work the next morning. I never go to the hospital for a paper cutting.”
