“We control them all”: Donald Trump Jr. sent Meadows ideas to overturn the 2020 election before it was called

CNN learned that Donald Trump’s oldest son sent Mark Meadows, then-White House chief of staff, a text message two days after the 2020 election. He stated that “we have the operational command” in order to secure his father a second term. This was done with Republican majorities in both the US Senate and the swing state legislatures.

According to CNN, the text contains ideas by Donald Trump Jr. for keeping his father in power and subverting the Electoral College process. This is not something that has been reported before. This text was among the records that were obtained by the House Select Committee investigating January 6, 2021.

Trump Jr. sent Meadows a text on November 5: “It’s very easy,” and added later in the same missive, “We have multiple pathways We control them all.”

Trump Jr.’s lawyer Alan S. Futerfas stated that he received many messages from supporters after the election. This message was likely sent from another source, given the date. Trump Jr. sent Meadows the following text immediately before describing several ways to challenge the election.

The November 5 text message describes a strategy that is almost identical to the one that the former President tried to implement in the months following. Trump Jr. specifically mentions filing lawsuits and advocating recounts in order to stop certain swing states from certifying the results. Additionally, Trump Jr. also mentioned having a few Republican state houses present slates of fake Trump electors.

If all else fails, the Trump Jr. text states that GOP lawmakers could vote to reinstall Trump in office on January 6.
